Teams often end up dealing with issues stemming from decisions made within their organizations. The different kinds of challenges teams face create an interesting tapestry that managers and teams often encounter.

The core idea is exploring the definitions of these terms and how teams experience them in a work environment. Some seem to be self-inflicted, others are unintended consequences, and others you can never plan for.

Types of Problems:

  • Issues: Problems that are created unnecessarily, which teams then have to solve
  • Challenges: The creative problem-solving that comes with doing something new, something different and making progress
  • Wastes: Things teams are forced to do that don’t make a difference
  • Frictions: Ways in which the organization works against and pushes back on what the team is trying to do.
  • Bottlenecks: The limiting factor
